New Types of Silage Wrap
A new Unipak silage wrap is set to revolutionise farm waste management. Already making headway in parts of Europe, clear bale wrap can reduce plastic farm waste and even be recycled. Covers, an Austrian packaging company, make silage wrap. The company sells its products under the brand name Unterland. Colm Malone told The Scottish Farmer more about the technology, an Eire-based sales manager.
Its benefits are countless. Unlike other agricultural products, it does not use any chemicals, which reduces weed invasion. Moreover, it protects foliage from damaging insects and direct sunlight, which may cause leaves to wilt. Plus, it provides a protective, natural coating that keeps soil from eroding. And thanks to its versatility, it is a great option for any farming business.
SABIC
SABIC is proud to offer silage stretch wrap film that delivers excellent performance, high puncture resistance, and excellent processability. In addition, the company collaborates with contractors, farmers, and converters to create advanced solutions to protect the environment while preventing forage contamination. SABIC silage stretch wrap film is available in an eleven-layer construction, and includes an exclusive, patented SABIC SUPER co-monomer that offers superior impact strength, tensile strength, and holding force performance.
In addition to the superior strength and durability of SML silage film, it also offers superior flexibility, cling, and stretchability compared to blown film. This new technology allows producers to get the best protection for their silage bales while reducing production costs. And the multi-layered stretch film ensures the highest level of protection. SML silage wrap has been successfully field-tested in various environments to ensure its high quality and durability.

Volac
A new limited edition Unipak silage wrap has been launched by Australian agricultural company Volac, which will donate all profits to charities supporting breast cancer research. The brand says that the pink silage wrap symbolises hope for many women who work in agriculture. It is also a great way to promote the company’s Silage Bale Awareness campaign. The film is 22mm thick and will help farmers prevent crop damage. Volac’s silage wrap is sold in rolls of 1,500 millimetres.
When wrapped with grass hay, the Volac Topwrap 2000 has achieved equal or better fermentation than classic film. These trials were conducted at Writtle College and SAC Crichton Royal, Dumfries. Perennial ryegrass bales wrapped in the film were compared to those wrapped with standard film. Both types of wrap were analysed for their nutrients and fermentation characteristics. In addition, the film’s tack was ideal.
Eco Ultra
Eco Ultra(r) is a multi-layer co-extruded film that offers excellent resistance to tears and impacts. Its special barrier formulation makes it ideal for high-performance wrapping of silage bales. Its elasticity and strength enable it to wrap a single bale with the same tension as a five-layer film. The film is rated 20 per cent more bales per roll than similar films.
Farmers and other food producers should use this biodegradable silage wrap to increase the quality of their fodder and maximise the production of milk and flesh. It can also be used for garbage-wrapping. The film is available in black colour and provides maximum two-year outdoor storage. Its effective sealing creates an oxygen barrier and speeds up the fermentation process. This biodegradable Unipak silage wrap also has high elasticity and good opacity.
Silotite
If you’re looking for a high-quality, reliable bale wrap, look no further than the patented 5-layer construction of Silotite silage wrap. Made from 25 microns of polyethylene, this film provides superior strength, elasticity and UV stability for all your baling needs. It also features double sided cling and two-sided tack, ensuring a secure seal and no tails during the wrapping process.
As a result, Silotite’s silage wrap is available in several different sizes and types to suit the needs of different agricultural producers. The Silotite 5 Layer is a stretch film that can prevent oxygen penetration, reduce spoilage and offer UV protection for 12 months. Available in green, white and black colours, Silotite 5 Layer, has an incredible 70% stretch on round bales.
